Master Wong Seng Choong began his martial arts training at the age of ten under his master, the late Chang Choy, and never stopped. Where other practitioners might find one dimension of the arts and settle there, Wong Seng Choong pursued both its sporting height and its deeper spiritual and philosophical dimensions.
In 1979, with his master’s blessing, he founded the Chang Choy Physical Training Institute in Kuala Lumpur, naming the school in honour of the man who had shaped him. He ran it alongside his career as an insurance agent for decades before the pull of the art became undeniable. In 2000, he resigned from his day job entirely and committed himself full time to teaching. It was, in his own way, an act of devotion.
A two-time Grand Champion, Wong Seng Choong brought the same precision and internal power to the competition floor that he carried into every aspect of his practice. His Chen Tai Chi, Canon Fist and Pushing Hands have been described as awe-inspiring to train alongside. There is a quality in his movement that defies easy explanation until you feel it directly. He will laugh, and send you flying at the same time.
Beyond his own achievements, his students have produced national Tai Chi champions. His school has continued to grow, and his influence extends well beyond its walls. He sits on the board of the Kuala Lumpur Wushu Association and serves as an honorary advisor to a number of Choy Lay Fut associations, including the World Choy Lay Fut Association in Hong Kong.
For Sifu George Michielsen, the relationship with Master Wong has been an ongoing and generous one. Over many years, Master Wong has shared the knowledge of both Chen Tai Chi and Sinew Qigong directly with Sifu George, visiting the Academy in Perth and running workshops that have left a lasting mark on the curriculum. It is through this transmission that the authentic methods of Chen Tai Chi and Sinew Qigong are preserved and taught at the Academy today.
